Thoughts About Jesus...
This morning I decided I would sit down with a five year old, and have her tell me about Jesus. There is something so sweet, innocent, and profound about having childlike faith. That is a phrase we say a lot, but don’t always fully comprehend. Before saying too much, this is what we talked about:
What are your thoughts about Jesus?
He made giraffes so they can eat and don’t need to go poor, and it makes you happy when you get to see them. He makes it so foxes don’t go hungry-it’s all about good food, that you should eat healthier.
What do you think Jesus is like?
I think Jesus is like the Creator. That he made everything. He loves his people that he made. He…He made airplanes. And he made love. And he made birds. And he made people. And he made flags. He made seashells. And that’s it!
How does it make you feel knowing Jesus is the Creator?
It makes me feel happy that I know Jesus is the Creator. Because it makes me learn more stuff and because then you know more about him.
What do you know about Jesus now?
I know that he loves us, and he loves what he made. And he loved what he sees even though we can’t see him. And that’s the end!
If you saw Jesus right now, what would you do?
I would freak out. In a good way. I would run up to him and give him a hug. I’d kiss him too.
Would you be afraid to meet him?
No. Because he’s the Savior.
What would you tell Jesus if you met him?
I don’t know, he sees everything! I’d ask him how he got down here.
How would you encourage someone if they are feeling sad?
You would encourage them by helping them. Like if their car got damaged, you could help fix it. You could be their friend. You would play with them, and you would help them by getting something for them like ice cream. You could also help someone by giving them hugs.
(You should ask) How did God create the trees?
God created the trees by first planting one by one but he did it super fast because he is the creator. He wanted to make more so people could breathe.
How do you know God loves us?
Because he did the rainbow for us when he promised he would never flood the earth again, so when you see a rainbow, then that’s so you remember the promise that Jesus gave us.
By hearing the birds, because God always tells the birds something, and then the birds tells it to us by chirping. They say, “I always love you, I won’t forget you anymore, ever. I will never forget you.”
Do you love Jesus?
Yes.
Why?
Because I do!
If you could tell everyone one thing about Jesus, what would it be?
It would be that he loves us a lot a lot a lot!
Mark 10:13-16 says
And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.
Jesus drew the children in when everyone else was trying to hold them back from running to him. Something that seems so juvenile and silly is what Jesus describes as worthy of receiving his Kingdom! Matthew 18:1-4 even says
At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
If children are the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, it would be good to take a few notes from them, and what better way to learn what childlike faith looks like than to watch a child! I see someone who doesn’t need an elaborate explanation before trusting what her Daddy says to be true. I see someone who is completely confident that if she runs up to her Daddy with her arms outstretched, he will pick her up and give her a great big bear hug. I see someone who is humble enough to know they still have a lot to learn, and aren’t afraid to ask questions to gain more understanding. I see someone who doesn’t complicate what can be simplified into three words: “Jesus loves me!”
1 John 3:1 says “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are…” As God’s children, we get to approach the throne of Grace with confidence to share with him all about our days. It’s perfectly okay to not know everything, and to seek out understanding. And it is absolutely beautiful to believe without a shadow of a doubt, “Jesus loves me this I KNOW for the Bible tells me so! Little ones to Him belong, they are weak, but HE is strong!”
